Hello Everyone!
With less then two weeks to go before the races I figured I would send out a quick e-mail just covering all the basics of the race. snow coverage varies right now on the trail with a couple inches on the Park Falls end with reports of closer to 6 inches on the rice lake side. Snowmobiles hopefully will start running the trail soon! I rode my bike on some of the trail the other day and it would have been great for bikers and runners pulling sleds not very good for skiers yet still very rocky. Good news is lots of snow in the forecast and no warm weather.
Packet Pickup- Packet pickup will be at a different location this year it will be in the town of Butternut about 4 Miles north of Park Falls at a restaurant call "The Shanty" it is located on the south side of town right off of hwy 13. Butternut is a very small town and will be impossible to miss.
Anyone that wants can pick up there packet the night before the races for the 150 mile race packet pickup Thursday 6:00 to 8:00 p.m 75 mile and 50 kilometer packet pickup Friday from 6:00 to 8:00. If you cannot make it don't worry you can pickup your packet the morning of the race right at the Tuscobia Trailhead.
Race Times and Bus Pickup Bus Pickups are the following.
150 Mile Race Start at 7:00 A.M Friday Morning at the Tuscobia Trail Head Park Falls
75 Mile Race Bus will leave from the Park Falls Trail Head for Rice Lake at 6:30 Saturday morning. Please arrive early to load sleds and Bikes into trailers. Bus made a stop in Ladysmith last year to grab coffee and food we will do this again this year. Hopefully the weather will be better this year and we can get started right at 9:00 this year.
50K Bus or vans not sure yet will leave the Park Falls Trail Head at 9:00 Saturday morning last year there was also a pit stop in winter and will be again this year race will start at 10:00.
Aid Stations and Drop Bags
150 Mile 1st Checkpoint in Ojibwa about mile 34.5 food and drink at this aid station also heated wall tent to warm up. Next checkpoint in Birchwood Mile 62 site TBD yet refill water and drop bags at this aid station. Turnaround Rice Lake Trail Head Pull your number off the board then back to Birchwood mile 87. Then Checkpoint Ojibwa mile 115.
75 Mile Checkpoint Ojibwa Drop Bag and Aid will be available at the checkpoint about 40.5 miles.
50K Aid Station is about half-way thru the race around 16 mile or so at FR 162 food and drink at the aid station you may also have a drop bag there as well.
Dropping from the race
I'm sure with this great group there will be no problems with that but just in case you have to drop please try to do this at a checkpoint! it is very remote on some parts of the trail and you could be out there for several hours before you are checked on especially at night! There will be snowmobiles checking on people so if your going to drop please stay on the trail and keep moving someone will be by eventually to check on you.
Cutoff Times
50K No cutoff time aid station at the halfway will stay there for 6 hours so even if you walk the whole trail you will make it.
75 Mile 17 hours into the Ojibwa checkpoint
150 Mile 15 hours into Ojibwa checkpoint 34.5 miles. 32 hours into Birchwood checkpoint 2 mile 62. 52 hours into Ojibwa checkpoint 3 115 miles.
Finish Line
There will be a warm tent and a bathroom at the finish. Also will be plenty of foot and drink there as well. The finish is about 200 yards from the trail head you will be able to get a ride from the finish to your car. anyone that is coming to spectate can park at the trail head parking lot and walk down the trail to the finish. I will put some signs up at the parking lot.
Anything I might have forgot or questions let me know!
Thanks
Tim
